The month of June is Adopt a Shelter Cat Month. As you might have guessed, we at Providence are all about adopting cats and finding them forever homes. Cats can sometimes be overlooked and people don’t always realize how the over population of them is a problem in our area. Spring and summer are the seasons where the kitten population increases the most and other shelters become overcrowded with mom cats and kittens- sometimes resulting in them being forced to euthanize due to lack of space and fosters. Our organization is fortunate enough that we are able to take cats from these shelters and give them the absolute best chance at finding the forever home they deserve.
During Adopt a Shelter Cat Month so far, we had an amazing adoption where a family adopted four cats at once! Can you believe it? Four amazing cats have a forever home together. Their names were Pumpkin, Jannit, Benny and Hera. Their new lives will be filled with lots of cuddles, naps and love.
Ducky was a very lucky kitten for finding her way to our Center. She was just a baby when she ended up being stuck inside of a truck motor and the truck had already been started. As you can imagine, Ducky is very lucky to be alive today. She made her way to our Center thanks to a Good Samaritan and was takin into our care where our vet staff did everything they could to give Ducky the best chance at life. She had lacerations all over her body which, resulted in her having to get stitches. One of our Shelter Health Department employees took Ducky to her home and fostered her until she was recovered. Of course, she fell hard in love and ended up making Ducky a permanent part of her family. Ducky has since grown to be a healthy, loving addition to their family!
This tiny little fellow was very lucky when he was found on the streets in the heat, flea-infested and crusty-eyed with a temperature of 104 degrees. Without our amazing lifesaving staff, he would not have made it here today. He is only 2-weeks-old and has a long journey ahead of him, but he is a fighter and in very good hands. If you are interested in helping this little guy on the road to recovery, you can donate to help support his needs! During kitten season, we are always looking for fosters for kittens like this little fighter. If you are interested in becoming a foster, download an application and fill one out.
As you can tell, this is a very exciting month and it has only just started. All of our cats and kittens come spay/ neutered, microchipped and with necessary vaccinations. Adult cats 6+ months old have an always-low adoption fee of $25. Kittens have a great discount for the month of June that includes $50 off their normal adoption fees. Stop by the Adoption Center during Adopt a Shelter Cat month and join all the fun- maybe you will even have a great adoption story on your own!
