Please note, every single complaint is investigated however due to the volume of calls the complainant will only be contacted if more information is needed.
Our Humane Society Police Officers provide animal cruelty investigations for all of Delaware and Chester Counties. Annually, our team investigates more than 600 claims of animal cruelty, abuse and neglect. Most complaints require further investigation. Their powers are granted by the State of Pennsylvania and uphold the state’s animal cruelty laws, contained in section 5511 of the Crimes Code, which states:
“Cruelty to Animals: A person commits an offense if he wantonly or cruelly illtreats, overloads, beats, otherwise abuses any animal, or neglects any animal as to which he has a duty of care, whether belonging to himself or otherwise, or abandons and animal, or deprives any animal of necessary sustenance, drink, shelter, or veterinary care, or access to clean and sanitary shelter which will protect the animal against inclement weather and preserve the animal’s body heat and keep it dry.”
Our Humane Society Police Officers investigate acts of cruelty within the 49 municipalities of Delaware County and Chester County, Pennsylvania.
